Ritchie's is always ready to give a helping hand to
their communities.
Every year, Ritchie's Building & Flooring Centre in Saint-John,
NB, raises an average of
$200 000 worth in food for the Romaro House(Soup
kitchen).
After nine days
of steady donations, a tractor trailer hauling about $200,000 worth
of food was delivered to Romero House soup
kitchen.
"It’s
marvelous, of course,” Carolyn Mc-Nulty founder of Romero
House Sunday afternoon while standing in front of the
fully-loaded 53-foot trailer. “The people that come out here
and do this, it is not a nice job,
but it gets you in the mood for Christmas and you can’t outdo
the Lord in generosity…Everyone gets
blessed.”
Gary
Stackhouse, host of Stack of the Morning on 98.9 Big John FM, was
camped out in the trailer for nine days collecting food for the
soup kitchen. It is the third year Stackhouse has collected food
for Romero House in the parking lot of Ritchie’s Building and
Flooring Centre on the east side.
“We did
it,”Stackhouse said.“Once again Saint John pulled
through.” McNulty said the food donated last year is just
starting to run out and the new load will feed about 300 people
every day and provide about 55,000 meals to keep
people
from going hungry when things get tough this year.
In 2007 we
participated in a project that helped a couple from
Hillborough regain courage
and hope by giving them a new home.
A Home for Charlotte and Jay
Some days it
seemed like it might never happen, but early in the morning on
November 24th,
as the rising sun began to brighten the sly and a few flurries
coasted down to earth, 12 very capable men ![]() congregated at a
barren building site on the Mollins Road, just outside Hillsborough
village limits. It was -7 with a cold winter wind, but they
didn’t seem to notice.
They laughingly called themselves the Dirty Dozen and they were
there for a single purpose — to build Jay and Charlotte a
home.
Planning had started in September and slowly the pieces came
together; local businesses jumping in to contribute building
materials, tradesmen offering their services, individuals

donating funds to build a barrier-free home for the couple.
It’s amazing what can happen
when a village works together.
